E-mail Print PDF

The Inspire CHT Scholarship Program was launched successfully on 06 August 2010. It was a proud moment for all the AASAB (Adivasi AusAid Scholars Alumni of Bangladesh) members and for all non-AASAB members who are involved with the initiative.

The event was graced by two well-known educationists: Dr Manik Lal Dewan, ex-Chairman, HDC, as the Chief Guest; and Professor Banchita Chakma, Principal, Rangamati Govt. Mahila College. Paban Kumar Chakma, one of the senior most AusAid Scholars chaired the event. Mr Gyana Priya Chakma, the president and the founder of JUMOFUL was also present. Sinora was simply superb as the Master of Ceremony. No one would believe that she acted as MC for the first time. Ms Lathenu Marma, on behalf of the sponsored students, expressed gratitude and thanked all the sponsors. Mr Hari Kishore, a well-known journalist in the CHT, was present, and reported the event in the Pratham Alo on Sat 7 August 2010. Mr. Kirti Nishan Chakma was present to represent Moanoghar at the event. The event was ended with all the sponsored students making a promise that they would do good results and establish themselves as real human beings.

In addition to previously committed sponsors, some more AusAid scholars such as, Trimita, Jhuma and a great team of scholars - Shubashis, Subrata, Kanchan, Sugata etc came forward to sponsor some more poor meritorious students. Some more scholars have also assured that they would start sponsoring very shortly. Not only AASAB members, but also non-AASAB members who are participating in this noble project.

One of the non-AASAB members is Mr Binimoy Chakma, a non-Bangladeshi talented individual serving an International reputed IT firm.

The Chief Guest said “Our Jummas are now showing more interest in religions and making more donations– which is good. However, they should also realize that helping a poor student establish in life is the best act of Dharma.” He also advised the sponsored students that they should either pay back the money to their sponsors or help the society in the same way.

Inspire CHT scholarship project is aimed at developing successful people in the CHT who will serve the CHT and the society they live in.

AASAB (Advasi AusAid Scholars Alumni in Bangladesh) is launching the Inspire CHT Scholarship Project to sponsor poor meritorious students from CHT in partnership with Jumoful – an NGO based in the CHT. AASAB members will sponsor the students and manage public relations whereas Jumoful will carry on the administrative work for managing the students and providing the donors with progress reports on a regular basis on the sponsored students.

The Inaugural Ceremony of "Inspire CHT Scholarship" will be held on Friday, 06 August 2010 at 11 AM at Conference room of Maleya Foundation,  Rajbari Road, Rangamati. The ceremony is being coordinated by Rana Joyti Chakma with cooperation of Mithel Chakma (AusAID Scholarship Recipient 1995) and Bidhayak Chakma (AusAID Scholarship Recipient 2008).

Each sponsor is assigned to sponsor a student by paying a monthly sum of BDT1000 plus BDT300 miscell aneous costs. Each sponsor or their nominated person will present the cheques to his/her sponsored student at the Inaugural ceremony.

The Inspire CHT Scholarship Project is open to all and AASAB sincerely welcomes both its members and non-AASAB members to participate in the program.

FAQ:

Why should I sponsor? (or what benefits have I got as a sponsor?)

As a sponsor, you will have the great satisfaction that you are doing something for our society and for our people. You are contributing to the CHT and to benefit our Jummas. In addition, there are many other benefits which could be as follows:-

• You are inspiring others to do something – not like just talking and doing nothing. We have many talkers, not doers.

• You are going to have another child who will be grateful to you forever and for your good support. Have you seen the hindi film "Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gaam"? Amitabh's own children didn't take care of or rather rejected their parents, while his adopted/sponsored child took every care of making lives happy.

• You are saving a Jumma family. Many of them sell everything to raise and educate their children, but still they can’t afford to pay educational expenses.

• You will get respect and blessing from the student and his/her family for your excellent Karma. This charity will bring more satisfaction than the donation (dana) we give to others.

• Your good charity will pay you off by making you more powerful and richer so that you can afford more. This is the law of Karma philosophy and accepted by all the religions.

How do I know my money is not mis-used or properly utilized?

We have taken every care to ensure that your money will be properly utilsed. While the Directory (Finance) will receive your money with an email confirmation,  the Director (Audit) will constantly monitor and ensure that the money was used as intended. An audited report at the end of each year will make it clear how money was used. Transparency and accountability will be the primary focus of this project.

I am not sure how long I can continue my sponsorship. Can I discontinue if I am not happy?

Yes, a sponsor can discontinue at the end of each financial year. The sponsorship program will be evaluated and renewed every year based on the mutual consent of the sponsors and the performance of their students.

Who will manage it?

A temporary Executive Committee which comprised of - Executive Coordinator, Director (Administration) , Director (Public Relations and Communications) , Director (Finance), and Director (Audit) will manage the project. Hopefully, we can give a permanent management structure once the constitution is completed and adopted. It should be open to all and a 100% transparency in terms of  money, management and administration. Please volunteer yourself to contribute more to this great initiative.

E-mail Print PDF

After few discussions among us (AASAB members) through meetings (the last meeting was held at dinner party hosted by Rana Joyti da at a restaurant in Dhaka on 12 July’10) and as most of us agreed & welcome the new initiative called “Inspire CHT” which is a sponsorship program. We, ex-AusAID scholars, will sponsor a poor but meritorious CHT indigenous student by min. Tk. 1,000/- to max. 2,000/- per month basis. Although it is not obligatory to join this ‘Inspire CHT’ program rather this is purely voluntary act, still we have a high expectation that many of us will sponsor at least one student (if possible more than one student). Many of us already started considering to sponsor or joining this new initiative. Now, we request you to confirm your name as sponsor if you already made up your mind. Please confirm to Rana Joyti da at soonest.

An inaugural ceremony of this sponsorship program has been scheduled on 6 August’10 (Friday) at 11 A.M. (Venue: Conference Hall of Mallaiya Foundation, Rajbari road, Rangamati ). You all are cordially invited to join this 2 hours program in Rangamati.

Therefore, please confirm your presence to us at soonest.

Thanks and best regards
Mithel
