 On 17 October, 2011 at 3.00 PM a team of EU Ambassador visited Killyamuro Banglali Para Development Committee (PDC) at Balukhali Union, Rangamati Sadar Upazila, Rangamati Hill Districts. EU Ambassador H.E. Mr. William Hanna could not make prescheduled visit to PDC while he was meeting with Mr. Santu Larma, Chairman, Chittagong Hill Tracts Regional Council (CHTRC) following late arrival of Rangamati from Dhaka.

UNDP Country Director in Bangladesh Mr. Stefan Priesner visited CIPD project activities at Sylheti Para Development Committee (PDC) under Rangamati Municipality on Friday on 9 September 2011. The purpose of this visit was to observe CHTDF program activities, gain understanding on the impact upon the beneficiaries of the project and to understand the challenges and opportunities of working in the Chittagong Hill Tracts.

Title: “World Environment Day – 2011” Observation.

Theme: “Forest: Nature at your service” 
 
Introduction: Chittagong Hill Tracts is covered with tropical forest and is the homeland of inhabitants of different species of wild animals, plants and insects. Different indigenous peoples also living here from time immemorial and their social, economical and cultural activities depends on forest. From forest they collect their foods, medicines, their daily required household materials and musical instrument etc. So, forest and their lives are closely related with each other. CIPD has been celebrating World Environment Day with CHTDF-UNDP under CE&ED Activities since 2005.

It takes 25 minutes speed boat journey and 30 minutes hiking to arrive at Charikhon PDC about 18 KM north east to Rangamati town.  Mr. Henrik and Mr. Mogen reached at 11.00 to Charikhong. PDC was in festive mood with the guest. Even the GoB Officials rarely visits the village.

Charikhong PDC was formed by CIPD in 2004 under CE & ED Project Activities supported by CHTDF. PDC has undertaken Cow Rearing, Goat Rearing, Husking Machine, Solar Panel, Honey Bee Keeping project activities in order to reduce poverty in the village. Charikhong PDC has made tangible progress on socio-economic status with the project activities by now. Charikhong is a remote Chakma Community village without road communication with 26 families.
